DICK TRACY Arrives at Clover Press!
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Clover Press to Publish The Complete Dick Tracy in New Format Vols 1-6 to Match Existing Larger Format, Launches September 2023
(April 10, 2023) Clover Press is excited to once again partner with the Library of American Comics and announce the publication of The Complete Dick Tracy Vols. 1-6, a collection of classic comic strips featuring the iconic detective created by Chester Gould.
The six volumes feature the complete Dick Tracy comic strips from its debut in 1931 through 1939, reprinted in their original black and white line art. These first six volumes were originally published in 2006-2009 by IDW in a 9.5” x 7” hardcover format but will now be updated to the current 11” x 8.5” format of volumes 7 through 29. As an added bonus, the first thirty-four Tracy Sunday pages, with stories separate from the daily continuity, have been rescanned in color to make them sharper and cleaner than their original reprinting. Clover Press is publishing these volumes under a worldwide license from Tribune Content Agency.
Each volume of The Complete Dick Tracy features the original introductions and interviews by Dick Tracy writer Max Allan Collins that appeared in the previous editions. The dustjacket design will also reflect the design of volumes 7-29.
"Dick Tracy is one of the most important and influential characters in the history of comics," said Hank Kanalz, publisher of Clover Press. "We're thrilled to be able to offer readers the chance to revisit these classic strips and experience the character's adventures from the beginning. We're committed to producing the highest quality books possible, and The Complete Dick Tracy is no exception "
“We've long wanted to reformat these six hardcovers,” said Dean Mullaney, series editor and Publisher of the Library of American Comics, “and with Clover's support, fans can now have 29 matching volumes on their bookshelves.”
The six volumes of The Complete Dick Tracy will be released two at a time, starting in September 2023, through comic book retailers, bookstores, online retailers, and directly from Clover Press.
